So You Think You Can Dance Season 4 Top 8

On Thursday night, we were left with the top 4 girls, consisting of Courtney, Chelsie, Katee, and Comfort, and the top 4 guys, consisting of Joshua, Mark, Will, and Twitch. I was certainly shocked at the results. The bottom two girls and guys were right on the money, but the guy and girl eliminated were not.

Kherington and Comfort landed in the bottom two, a place they deserved to be placed in after their below-par performances on Wednesday. Kherington performed a country two-step and messed up her arms so much during her turns that it became a disaster. She was basically blamed for the failure of the dance, letting Mark escape the heat because of all of her mistakes. The jazz routine they performed was not poorly danced, just boring and lifeless. Her solo was also the weakest of the girls.

Comfort, on the other hand, rocked a futuristic hip hop routine with Twitch, though to be fair that is their speciality. I quite enjoyed their smooth waltz, but the judges tore it apart. Comfort performed a solo that was one of the best she’s done on the show.

In the end, Kherington was sent home. Considered a fan favorite in the previous rounds as a couple with Twitch, it’s now obvious that Twitch was carrying the couple. As for the boys, Gev was sloppy on the jive with Chelsie, but their other routine was solid, and his solo was spectacular. Mark had the terrible country two-step and jazz numbers, plus a weaker solo. I am a Mark fan, but I kind of wanted Gev to stay because I love cheering for the underdog. Alas, he was cut, mostly because I don’t think he had a fanbase.

Here are my dancer rankings: 1) Will, 2) Katee, 3) Chelsie, 4) Twitch, 5) Mark, 6) Courtney, 7) Joshua, 8- Comfort. Next week I’m hoping for some some new dances on the stage. I greatly enjoyed the Bollywood routines, the disastrously bad country two-step, and the beautiful pas de deux. Another wish: that the judges quit pushing their favorites so hard. Will and Katee, in whatever couple they are with, always get the best genres and the best routines. I hardly think it is randomized. Furthermore, the judges feel the need to hype them endlessly, as if the viewers are a bunch of uncultured idiots who cannot recognize good dance. WE CAN! And we like them because we can see that they’re talented dancers. So don’t make me not like them.

My favorite dance this week was Katee and Will’s pas de deux. See it here. My favorite solo happened to be Gev’s, available here.

So You Think You Can Dance Season 4 Top 10

My newly predicted final 4. Photos from fox.com.

Last night. the Top 10 dancers were revealed on “So You Think You Can Dance.” After eliminating Comfort, we were left with Jessica, Courtney, Kherington, Chelsie, and Katee for the girls. Thayne was also eliminated, leaving us with Will, Gev, Twitch, Mark, and Joshua for the guys. Next week, the couples will be randomized, and each dancer will perform a solo. America will vote for an individual dancer rather than a couple, and the judges will have no power. Hopefully, home viewers will vote using the judges’ critiques.

Comfort and Thayne have spent almost the entire competition in the bottom 3, so it was no surprise that they were finally cut. As the judges said, they just didn’t share a connection. Thayne is obviously a talented contemporary dancer, as we saw from his audition. On the show, however, he did a lot of frozen smiling and often looked awkward. That being said, I think Chelsea was a much better partner than Comfort. Comfort certainly rocked her solo last night, but it wasn’t enough to make up for her other dances. I don’t think Comfort partners well. She just never connected with her partners, and she often looked blank. Unfortunately, they had been in my predicted top 4. Guess I’ll have to make a new top 4 prediction.

Now that we’re at the top 10, I think the top 4 in the finals will be: Will, Mark, Chelsie, and Katee. Will is clearly a judges’ favorite, and there’s no denying that he is the most talented dancer on the “So You Think You Can Dance” stage. His solo last night was unique and amazing. It also helps have a nice body that lots of squealing teenage girls will vote for. Mark is quirky and theatrical, and he has never faltered in a dance so far when partnered with Chelsie. Voters love good partnerships and don’t want to split them up. Also, his Vegas performance that we saw proved that he has extremely strong solos. Chelsie has a firecracker personality and is skilled at all forms of dancing, plus there is always a ballroom girl at the end. Her experience with partnering will mean she can dance well with everyone. Katee is a judges’ favorite, and she seems sweet and humble, much like last year’s winner, Sabra.

Which means that everyone else will be eliminated one by one. Next week, Jessica will certainly be leaving, but it’s up in the air as to who will be joining her. The guys are all very solid, and have good solos. The girls are also very talented, though I can see Kherington leaving soon, and possibly Courtney, along with Gev, if they don’t partner with others well. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

So You Think You Can Dance Season 4 Top 16 Results Recap

Will Thayne & Comfort emerge as a new super duo? Photos from fox.com.

Last night America said goodbye to the personality-deficient contemporary dancer Chris and the bubbly contemporary dancer Chelsea. Chris’ problem was obvious; he wasn’t adept at any dance form, and I expected him to leave last week. Chelsea, on the other hand, was entertaining and warm; unfortunately, she just couldn’t wear heels and dance to save her life. Thus, we are now left with the pairing of Thayne and Comfort, an odd duo who nonetheless will probably provide more sparks.

Kourtni and Matt also ended up in the bottom 3 again, though it wasn’t a shocker. Take the hint, judges; we don’t like them! They are awkward and don’t pack sparkling personalities. Their outfits didn’t help either, but that was hardly their fault. Anyway, Matt’s solo was the best we’ve seen this year, and he justified his presence in the competition. Kourtni, however, wasn’t that great. I don’t know what the judges see in her. I would’ve preferred that she leave.

Movers and Shakers:

  • Chelsie and Mark had another hit performance with their third, a slick hip-hop routine. They are arguably the couple to beat; Adam Shankman agrees.
  • Courtney & Gev are doing remarkably well despite being extremely petite and appearing quite awkward.
  • Will is an amazing dancer, but I’m still unsure about Jessica. I think they need to get rid of her so that he can shine at his full potential.

In other news, the frontunners are being clearly defined, as are those at the bottom. Here are my rankings of the remaining couples.

Top 14

1) Chelsie & Mark

2) Katee & Joshua

3) Kherington & Twitch

4) (predicted) Comfort & Thayne

5) Courtney & Gev

6) Jessica & Will

7) Kourtni & Matt

“So You Think You Can Dance” Season 4 Top 20

My predicted top 4. Photos from fox.com.

Last night was the announcement of the Top 20 on “So You Think You Can Dance.” What I hated about the episode was the complete lack of information on some of the favorite contestants, but I digress. Here is 411 on the dancers that will be featured in the first live show next Wednesday on FOX, at 8 pm.

The Dancers with High Potential, i.e. Predictions for the Final Four

  • Thayne Jasperson- He’s a killer contemporary dancer from what we’ve seen of him, reminscient of Season 2’s beloved Travis. I think he’s going to go very far, especially on the votes of girls.
  • Comfort Fedoke – Definitely the best hip-hop dancer I’ve ever seen on the show. Plus, she has personality, and the grace of a ballroom dancer. Did you see her do the foxtrot with Joshua Allen?
  • Joshua Allen- So he might have lied about his previous dance training. It doesn’t matter. This guy is genuinely talented and thoroughly entertaining. His audition was one of my favorites this year, as was Thayne’s.
  • Courtney Galiano- Not my personal favorite, but the family-oriented contemporary dancer exudes a spunky personality and is sure to become a judges’ favorite.

The Good Dancers Who Won’t Make It All the Way

  • Stephen ”Twitch” Boss- It’s nice to have a guy who isn’t some immature kid; I really adore Twitch, the hip-hopper who lost his Top 20 slot to Hok last year. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a good SYTYCD track record, and he’ll eventually end up leaving during a week of tricky choreography.
  • Kherington Payne- She’s got the looks, the talent, and the personality- I just don’t think the soccer-playing contemporary dancer will come off as likable, and she won’t pull in votes.
  • Chelsie Hightower- A completely unmemorable ballroom dancer. Remember her? She’s the broke one.
  • Mark Kanemura- He had an interesting and downright goofy interpretation of “Bohemian Rhapsody.” He seems to be a likable offbeat guy.

How the Hell Did They Make It Into the Top 20

  • Susie Garcia- This over-sexified dancer leaves me speechless in a bad way.
  • Katee Shean- She shot herself in the foot. The roommate girl may be pretty and a solid contemporary dancer, but her attitude will get her nowhere.

And The Rest

I have no idea who the hell they are. But I’m excited to see them dance! Some of them look talented.
