Critics’ Choice Awards Red Carpet Review 2012

The Critics’ Choice Awards are certainly a more casual affair than the upcoming Golden Globes, and it showed on the 2012 red carpet. There were a few fashion stars, but mostly it was a bunch of fashion misses. Can’t wait for Sunday…

BEST

Elizabeth Olsen in Pucci.

Elizabeth Olsen rocked a long-sleeved mini from Pucci. The yellow print was refreshing to see. The dress is short, but the look still feels put-together and not too casual- and it doesn’t look like the typical minis worn by other starlets. She’s certainly one to watch.

Diane Kruger in Prada.

Diane Kruger always brings something buzz-worthy to the red carpet. The gray and yellow combination is on trend apparently (see Elizabeth Olsen), and the hot pink clutch pops.

Kirsten Dunst in Dior.

What happened to Kirsten Dunst?! She used to dress in such a boho, grandma-ish way, and now she’s been breaking out some good fashion. This is a fun little black dress- love the tulle panel!

Viola Davis in Raoul.

If you’re not into high fashion, this is how you do the red carpet: choose a flattering silhouette, a color that looks amazing on you, and a good hairstyle.

THE WORST

Jessica Chastain in Balenciaga.

Jessica Chastain has been wearing a lot of pastels lately, and it’s unfortunate. Pastels tend to wash her out, like this bubblegum pink one. Her makeup isn’t great either- it ages her.

Shailene Woodley in Calvin Klein Collection.

I get the whole minimalism thing, and I appreciate when young actresses do it instead of donning bandage dresses and over-the-top gowns. That being said, a little effort would be nice. Her hair and makeup look like they haven’t been done, and she could use a better undergarment under that dress.

Melissa McCarthy in David Meister.

This is a really unflattering dress. It’s like a big, sparkly mumu that someone much older than her should be wearing.

Emma Stone in Jason Wu.

I love Emma Stone, but I think this was a misstep. The dress feels like a maxi more appropriate for a daytime event or a day by the beach, and the belt doesn’t help the dress feel more elegant. The shoes are pretty boring too.
